Since 1979, I have been
working on site-specific sculpture for both indoor and outdoor environments. To
date, I have constructed at least forty such works, including two permanent commissions.
For many of my projects, and especially the two permanent installations, I have had the opportunity to collaborate
with other artists, architects, landscape artists, and engineers. These collaborative
projects have been extremely positive, especially in terms of stimulating my own creative concerns. I have also had training in the field of engineering, which facilitates my overall understanding of the
concerns faced when designing large-scale, site-specific project.
The design of my works
is always based on the properties of a given site. In addition to the formal
visual aspects of the site, I also take into account the needs of the people using the space.
My works need to be inviting for visitors to either socialize; or sit
and relax in the environment. Seating is an important element in my design, in
some cases, it serves as an integral part of architecture or it could be specially designed seats.

I also believe that water and planting play
important roles in environmental design. Since 1984, I have taken advantage of
the many different characteristics which water can lend to a work in helping to set the mood for public spaces. It can both excite, as in a water fall or fountain, or it can be meditative, as in the reflecting pool. With proper lighting, I have found that water can also dramatize.
